My Diary 5.0 is the premiere personal journal for the Palm OS® hand-held. With it, you can keep a daily log of your moods and private thoughts. You can keep a journal of your vacations, your child's development, or even about your pets!   My Diary is password protected so only you can access it. For extra protection, you can keep it on a memory expansion card.  For the burning questions in your life, you can even ask My Diary questions and it will answer them - maybe!  And entering diaries entries is simplified with easy "fill in the blanks" picked from a list of templates.

My Diary 5.0 supports multiple diaries, multiple pages per diary, storing diaries on the memory expansion card or internal drive/card, and has a customizable diary cover, colors, and fonts.

My Diary supports Sony UX50 and all Palm brand PDAs, including the Palm Tungsten, Zire, LifeDrive, and Treo's.  Extended screen sizes (tall or wide) are supported.  Enhanced one-handed navigation is supported on devices that support 5-way navigation (E2, T5, Treos)..

If you have a Palm Tungsten T|3, you need a screen driver.  Download T3Screen.zip here.

Custom Fonts With FontBucket

Each diary in My Diary 4.0 supports a custom font on the diary entry and list screens with the add-on font manager from Hands High Software called FontBucket.  FontBucket supports both standard and high-density fonts.  It has a Windows™ utility that will legally convert your favorite fonts from your system into a Palm OS Font for use with any application that uses FontBucket.  And FontBucket's high-density fonts look great on the Palm Tungsten|T!  (At this time, hi-res fonts on Sony's are not supported.)

FontBucket can be downloaded from http://www.handshigh.com/fontbucket.

You can download Custom Fonts from their site!

Custom Diary Covers

Each diary in My Diary 5.0 can have it's own cover with the default cover being the one supplied with My Diary.  You install additional covers in Cover Packs that contain 1 or more covers.  Covers come in B&W, gray scale, color, and High-Density.

Create your own covers with My Diary Cover Forge!

View and download custom covers from the My Diary Cover Page.

Custom Diary Toolbars

Not available for My Diary 5.x at this time (supported, but no additional toolbars yet).

Name My Diary

MDName is a little tool you can run that will allow you to rename the My Diary 4 application in the Palm OS launcher to another name (e.g. My Journal, Journal, Ramblings, etc.).  This tool is freeware (and "unsupported").

Upgrading Diaries From Ver.4 to Ver.5.

First, backup your current MD4 diaries!  Before you upgrade, you should install My Diary 5.x and have any My Diary 4.x diarys installed on your device.  MD4 diary files always have a filename that starts with "MD4_" (e.g. "MD4_Personal").   When you upgrade, in order to save space, the databases are converted "in place" which means that once a diary is converted, it's no longer available in MD4.  Also, your MD4 template database will also be converted "in place".  Once you have converted your MD4 diaries and templates over to MD5, you can actually re-install the MD4 diaries and they can run fine side-by-side.  Lastly, there is no conversion from MD4 skins to MD5 - both versions use the same MD4 covers.  It is recommended at this time that you avoid the MD4 toolbar skins as they do not contain enough tools to satisfy MD5.

Steps to Convert My Diary 4.x to My Diary 5.x:

  1. Start My Diary 5.x  (this will actually automatically convert the template database to MD5).
  2. At the cover screen, tap the menu and select the [Diary / Open Diary] command.
  3. On the open diary dialog, checkmark the "V.4.0" checkbox.  This will display all your MD4 diaries.
  4. At this point, you can move or rename your diary files.
  5. Select a diary and tap the (Open) button.  This will display a diary conversion alert.

Repeat steps 2 through 5 for each diary you want to convert to My Diary 5.x.

Upgrading From My Diary 3.x to My Diary 4.0.

My Diary 3.x can run side-by-side with My Diary 4.0 so both can be used at the same time.  You can upgrade your diary from 3.x to 4.0 by running a small conversion utility.  Your existing diary becomes another diary in your Open list.

Conversion will...

  • Convert all your diary entries from the 3.x format to the new format.
  • Convert up to 15 moods from your 3.x diary to your new diary.

Conversion won't...

  • Templates won't be converted - used Copy/Paste.
  • Some moods will get truncated if over 15 characters in length.
  • Some moods won't come over if you have more than 15 of them.

Download the MD3toMD4 Conversion Utility.  Documentation is included with the download.
