Determining Your HotSync™ User ID
|
All Palm OS hand-helds have desktop software that synchronizes the hand-held
data and applications with the corresponding applications on the desktop.
For example, this is how your calendar entries appear both in Outlook (or Palm
Desktop) and in the hand-held app, DateBook. Each hand-held is named by
you the first time you HotSync'd your hand-held. The name that you gave it
is your HotSync ID.
If you do not know your HotSync ID, you can find it out: The name is shown in
the upper-right hand corner of the HotSync application on the hand-held.
|
| First, you need to start your hand-held and
switch the launcher category to the System category.
You'll see the HotSync icon (middle of the top row here) with it's
double arrows. |
 |
| Tap the HotSync icon (not the button on your
cradle) and you will see the HotSync User ID in the upper-right hand
corner. In this case, the name is "Rick".
When send a HotSync ID, note that each character's case is important:
"Rick" is not the same ID as "RICK" - so make sure
it's noted correctly. |
 |
| Sometimes there are problems
determining the HotSync ID of your handheld. Some languages support
accent and other characters that are not easily sent through email.
I've seen two spaces between a first and last name (First Last)
where the two spaces looked like one and was sent to me that
way. Anyhow, if you're having problems getting the correct
code down, you can get the ShowName application to help report your true
HotSync ID. Download ShowName.zip. |
| ShowName will show your HotSync ID (Palm Name)
both as text ("Rick") and encoded ("52-69-63-6B").
If you are having problems or have non-English characters in your name,
you may want to run this and send me the encoded name. |
